What Matters Most to Middle-Income Home Buyers? Security!

CE Pro Magazine, the leading trade publication for professionals in the custom electronic business came out with a study detailing what matters most to middle-income home buyers.

Data from a recent report says that the high-end home market is driven by audio and video control features. But the middle-income market was more interested in security-related features.

According to this data, the most sought-after smart home devices to connect to a phone are:

  1. Smoke/Water/Gas leak detectors
  2. Motion/Door/Window sensors
  3. Appliances
  4. Lights
  5. Stove/Oven
  6. Thermostat
  7. Panic Button
  8. Security Cameras
  9. Door Locks
The two most popular features for the middle-income home buyer is the smoke/water/gas leak detectors, about 50% of those surveyed, while 33% say door locks appeal to them the most.

The SABRE Home Series is full of products to appeal to this type of consumer. There are no costly monthly monitoring fees, and because each product is DIY, there are no installation costs either.

Per this data, SABRE has several products that would give peace of mind to home owners, people looking to sell their home, or realtor's needing to offer suggestions:

  1. Water Leakage Alarm
  2. Panic Alarm
  3. Motion Sensing Alarms
  4. Door, Window, or Glass Alarms
These standalone alarms sound at 120 dB and can be heard up to 300 feet away - the length of a football field! They'll alert anyone at home, the neighbors, and most importantly the intruder someone is trying to get inside your home that shouldn't be.

For more information on the complete SABRE standalone alarm series, and the SABRE wireless alarms, visit the SABRE Home website.

DIY Home Security Tips from 21 Expert Panel

SABRE's David Nance, also known as the Personal Safety Expert, was part of a panel earlier this month to address home security options when it comes to DIY installation.

Safe And Sound Family is an online resource that researches and posts high quality, trustworthy information about family safety for families.

All twenty-one panelists selected by Safe and Sound Family were asked the same question - "What's the most important tip you have for homeowners who want to install a DIY home security system?"

Nance says the most important tip he has is to invest in securing all main entrance points and all ground floor windows and doors for one very important reason: more than 50% of home invasions are occurring through first floor entry points. But don't just install the system and forget about it; homeowners should be actively monitoring the alarms to make sure they're working properly.

The SABRE home series - which can be found in Target stores nationwide or online at our website, offers several motion sensing alarms that will sound a 120 decibel siren when activated - that can be heard up to 300 feet away! The benefits of using wireless or standalone alarms are many - homeowners will be able to avoid expensive monthly fees, wiring installation costs, and still receive an excellent level of protection.

At 120 dB, you and any neighbors and people living in the vicinity of your home are woken up - but most importantly, now the intruder knows that if you're home, you are now awake. We know intruders want the path of least resistance, and an alert homeowner with noisy alarms is not an easy target.

Here are some other quick tips from the other panelists:

  • Have a back up plan in case your alarm system does not deter and intruder - a safe can be an easy way to secure important belongings and documents.
  • Do your research! Make sure you know the difference between a sensor and alarm, and make sure to learn the range of the products so you're getting so you have accurate expectations for the performance of your system.
  • An alarm alerts you that something is happening, not that something is about to happen. That means families need back up plans and need to agree on a commonly known safety procedure in case of an emergency.
  • Keep it simple! A system that is easy for multiple family members to use means the system is more likely to be activated, and is more likely to be on if and when an emergency occurs.
  • Invest in something that can protect and alert you for multiple threats - a system that has fire, flood and intruder protection means the homeowner is getting more for their money.

If It's Good Enough for the White House - Why Home Security Matters

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Last month, a man hopped a fence and gained entry at what you'd think to be one of the most heavily guarded and most secure buildings in America - the White House. According to several news outlets, the private living quarters of the Obama family is not in fact swarming with Secret Service when the President and his family aren't there.

Such was the case on September 19th, so Omar Gonzalez was allegedly able to run across the grounds and actually enter the building before being stopped.

This week the director of the Secret Service has been sitting in a hearing on Capital Hill facing scrutiny from several lawmakers about how this breach of security happened. One Congressman suggested the Secret Service use a home alarm system he has in place at his home. While the advice was simply to add to the embarrassment felt by the department, the Congressman does bring up a good point. He argues a system would have at the very least alerted the guards someone was inside that shouldn't be. But the system he suggests comes with expensive monthly fees and wiring costs.

Instead, the SABRE Home Series provides effective safety solutions at an affordable price, easy DIY installation, and no additional fees. Had SABRE stand alone alarms or a wireless alarm system been in place and activated during this episode, the second an intruder opened a door or window the intruder and everyone else would have known there's someone inside who doesn't have access.

The average American doesn't have a fenced in property with guards on stand-by. But the average American can invest in their home's security to protect themselves and their families from being victims of theft or worse. According to the FBI, property crimes and breaking and enterings are one area of crime that continues to rise across the country.

Visit the SABRE Home Series website to learn more about our wireless and stand alone home alarm systems.

PowerCakes Blogger Giveaway - How Do You Stay Safe?

Many college students have been on campus for about a month, but the Red Zone is still in effect. The Red Zone is what law enforcement refers to as September and October and it's when the most accidents, injuries and attacks happen on college campuses. SABRE and our partners are continuing to remind everyone to make their personal safety a priority.

Self-Defense Expert and SABRE partner Jennifer Cassetta took the message to the PowerCakes Blog this weekend. She shares her five most important tips for Back to School Safety - plus, a SABRE product giveaway! Take a look at some of her tips here, but head over the PowerCakes blog to learn more tips!

#1: Check Your Posture -  How you stand, walk, and carry yourself can deter a potential attacker or make you a walking target. Keep your shoulders back and your head and eyes up as you walk around in public to convey confidence to others.

#2: Get Off Your Phone - Contrary to the comforting aspect some may find with texting or talking to people on the phone as you're out and about, put your phone down and don't be distracted! Be engaged with your surroundings, not your voicemails or Instagram feed.

#3: Keep Your Home Away From Home Safe - Whether you live in a one-room dorm or share an apartment with friends, it's important to make your home your safe haven. SABRE's Dorm/Apartment Kit come with three alarms that can keep you and your belongings safe by sounding sirens heard up to 300 feet away if an intruder tries to break in.

Americans Want Secure Homes Without the High Cost

According to a survey conducted by national hardware store Lowe's, most Americans want to invest in their home's security - they just don't want to spend a lot of money to make that happen.

The Lowe's 2014 Smart Home Survey collected feedback from 2,000 U.S. adults in July.

Here are some of the most important findings we've identified below:

  • 52% say having a smart home is at least somewhat important, but more than 70% of smart phone users would like to control these security functions without getting out of bed.
  • In terms of purchasing decisions, 56% say cost is the number one deciding factor, followed by 13% concerned with how easy it is to use, and 11% concerned with security.
  • For actual functions, security is the most sought after application with 62% of those surveyed agreeing. 35% wanted something convenient and disasters, like flood and dire protection being important for 29% of those surveyed.
  • 50% of people prefer DIY solutions without a monthly fee, which is twice as many as those who say they'd prefer a professionally monitored system with a service fee (21%.)
The results of this survey show consumers are interested in effective, affordable, and easy to set-up products - the SABRE Home Series meets all of these requirements!

Protecting your family and property with a quality security system doesn't need to be expensive. Our system includes three categories:

  • Wireless Home Security Systems - Design a system to protect your home or office that you can arm with a touch of a button.
  • Stand Alone Alarms - Ideal for apartments, dorms, and hotel rooms
  • Personal Alarms - Be Prepared to help chase trouble away with a 110 dB siren on your key ring.
SABRE alarm products can help provide you safety and security without costly installation and monthly fees. Visit our website to learn more, or find our products in Home Depot and Target stores nationwide!

Keep Your Home Away From Home Safe & Protected

Millions of college freshman are heading off to campus to live on their own for the first time! But with this new change in environment comes many new responsibilities.

It may seem like a great idea to leave your dorm room unlocked while you run to the bathroom, change a load of laundry, or simply keep it open while you're hanging out with friends on your floor. The numbers should warn you against that - more than 10,000 students are victims of aggravated assault and robbery each year. Since many students are heading to school with new, and expensive, school supplies, SABRE created our Dorm/Apartment Kit to help students keep these valuables safe. Priced at $26.99 - our Dorm/Apartment Kit is a practical and inexpensive solution!

The Dorm/Apartment kit comes with three stand-alone alarms:

1.) Door Stop Alarm: This 120 decibel alarm can be heard up to 300 feet away, and sounds when pressure is applied. Since this fits underneath your doorway on the inside, it will sound if someone tries to open the door from the outside.

2.) Door/Window Alarm: Also sounding 120 decibels, this alarm can secure the other entry point into your dorm room, the window, or a second door. The compact device sounds when the magnetic strip is moved, like when the door or window are opened.

3.) Personal Alarm - this key chain model complete with an LED light provides on-the-go protection. The 115 decibel alarm can be heard up to 300 feet away, and draws attention to you in a dangerous situation.

These alarms take seconds to install and set up, and can move with the college student as they change surroundings from year to year. Start investing in your student's safety today and visit our website to lean more!

Leaving Your Home Secured

There are many types of break in scenerios. The residents can be home and awake, home and sleeping, gone on vacation or even out in the yard. Regardless of the scenario, criminals want to get in and get out quickly with whatever they came for.

Criminals also want the path of least resistance, and a noisy alarm or security sign will make some criminals think twice about targeting your home. In two recent stories, residents left their homes without security systems or alarms installed. While these won't make your home invincible to an incident, they can help deter some crimes from occurring in the first place.

Glendale, AZ - Two would-be burglars were arrested early Tuesday morning.

Azfamily.com reports around 6:00 A.M. a nearby neighbor called the police to report the break-in. The residents of the broken house were not home at the time of the incident.

Police surrounded the house and soon found two suspects inside. The men were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary.

Whether you’re away on vacation or away at the grocery store, your home should not be left vulnerable to would-be thieves and criminals. The next story involves a home intruder who broke into an empty home and waited for the residents to arrive.

San Francisco, CA - On Sunday morning, a 34 year old man was arrested for suspicion of home invasion, kidnapping and sexual assault.

SFGate reports the suspect, Jamala Morris broke into the empty home and awaited the arrival of the mother and daughter. When the daughter entered her bedroom, Morris ordered the daughter to get on the ground as he covered her mouth with duct tape.

Hearing the corruption, the mother entered the room to check on her daughter, only to be held at gunpoint and taped up as well.

Police said, a male resident came home moments later but he panicked and escaped from the home. The suspect fled after taking many items, including the mother’s wallet.
The panicked male resident returned home, freed the mother and daughter and called police at 12:20 a.m. Sunday.

Police arrested the suspect at his home the next day because inside, authorities said they found the victim's wallet, a short-barrel shotgun, duct tape and other evidence linking him to the crime.

Morris reportedly said that he had no connections with the family and had only seen them in passing.

With burglaries occurring every 14.5 seconds across the United States, investing in your home security is highly suggested as you can potentially avoid dangerous situations as the one mentioned above. Again, criminals want the path of least resistance and a sounding alarm is an effective method for deterring most criminals.

Protecting your home and family does not have to be expensive as SABRE offers a wide variety of home security products at affordable prices – plus, no monthly fees!

The SABRE Wireless Alarm Kit is a great way to invest in your home security with its easy installation and inexpensive, yet practical means to securing your home.

The Alarm Kit includes a 120 dB Keypad Door / Window Alarm plus 3 Additional 120dB Door / Window Alarms. The 120 dB alarm sound is as loud as a rock concert, which deters the burglar from entering your home and allows you to wake up and be aware of the situation.

The Keypad Door/Window Alarm has an Entry / Exit delay to prevent false triggering. It also has an arm & disarm feature that requires a numeric code.

The SABRE Door/Window Alarm protects your home with its magnetic triggered alarm that sounds when a protected door or window is opened, tampered with, or movement is detected.

Personal safety expert and CEO of SABRE, David Nance was recently featured in one of The Star Ledger’s New Jersey Newspaper. The article focused on back-to-school safety for college students and David offered his safety expertise, tips and suggestions for incoming college students.
During Nance’s interview, he spoke about the criminal mindset.
"Thieves are looking for the path of least resistance," he says. "They want to get in and out as quickly as possible. When an alarm sounds, the chance of them being identified increases."
Nance also mentions the effectiveness of small standalone alarms which are designed to discourage criminals.
"In most cases when an intruder hears that sound, they are going to retreat,” says Nance.
With school just around the corner, SABRE recommends 3 back-to-school essentials for college students - all cost-efficient and available at your local Target:

Two Children Escape Home During Break-in

Pinson, AL - Two Pinson children managed to escape their home Monday as a burglar attempted to break in.

Tribune Interactive reports, a 14 year-old girl and her 9 year-old younger brother were home alone when they discovered a stranger trying to enter the house. Thinking on their feet, they immediately called their mother who in turn contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The children then escaped and ran to their neighbor’s home.

Authorities arrived to find 50 year-old William Thomas climbing out of a first floor window of the home. When Thomas discovered the authorities’ arrival, he dropped the stolen belongings and ran into a nearby wooded area. Authorities surrounded the wooded area and later captured and arrested the suspect.

Breaking Into Homes With An iPhone?

It’s the 21st century and we’re all guilty of taking advantage of innovative technology as it makes life easier, more convenient and even more entertaining. But a downside - technology can make life easier and convenient for criminals too.
SABRE has learned, there is a downloadable iPhone app with the capability of giving someone access to your home. Wired.com has shared an articled titled, The App I Used to Break Into My Neighbor’s Home where it is revealed how to break into someone’s home with the use of an iPhone.
Companies like KeyMe, along with competitors like KeysDuplicated and the Belgian Keysave, intend to solve the common problem of lockouts and lost keys, thereby creating apps that have the ability to scan your keys and copy them. With these apps, you scan and upload your keys, copy them and even send them to a friend who plans to visit.
This may sound like another cool and innovative idea until you realize how much of your home security is actually at stake. In the article, The App I Used to Break Into My Neighbor’s Home, the author provides details of how he was able to scan his neighbor’s keys, create a duplicate and re-enter his neighbor’s home without permission.
We can’t be oblivious to the new technology out there. SABRE is here to make sure you are prepared to handle such innovative changes with the SABRE Home Series.
For greater protection, you can start off with the WP-100 Wireless Home Protection System which includes a control pad, 8 security zones, a key fob remote control, a wireless motion detector, and two window/door sensors.
If you are looking for something more simple and even more affordable, we have door/window alarms, motion sensing alarms and more that are available individually. Either way, our SABRE Home Series Products can help scare away criminals, the moment they attempt to enter your home.

As we can continue to enjoy the innovative technology of the 21st century, it’s important to remain alert and aware of what’s out there. Be smart, be ready and be safe with The SABRE Home Series.

Man Arrested After Garage Break-in

New Castle, PA — Is your home fully secured? Are you missing anything? Think about it.

The garage is one of the most vulnerable entries of your home and the importance of its security is often forgotten. Not only does it hold all of your important tools, supplies and automobiles but when garages are connected to the home, a burglar gains access to everything inside.

Pennsylvania State police arrested an Ellwood City man after a garage burglary in Taylor Township.

NEW Castle News reports, a woman’s garage was broken into while she was sleeping around 6:00am on July 1st.

The woman was not aware of the incident until she saw her air compressor advertised for sale on the Lawrence County Community Bulletin Board two days after the break-in.

She contacted the police and arranged to set up the transaction to buy back her stolen property in an attempt to have the suspect arrested.

The suspect learned of the set up during the transaction and escaped before the police could arrest him. He was found and arrested last Wednesday with a burglary charge.

It took approximately two and a half weeks to catch the suspect after the break-in on July 1st. SABRE could help avoid situations like these with our alarms made to help scare intruders away.

The SABREGarage and Shed Alarm will help in keeping your garage safe and secure.

Like all of our Home Series Products, this Garage and Shed Alarm is very cost effective and it installs easily in minutes. The alarm is keypad operated, arms with a numeric code and comes with 2 sound modes, alarm sound to scare off intruders, and chime sound to inform you when someone is home.

Don’t forget about your garage when thinking about home security!

Intruder Enters Sandra Bullock's Home!

Photo retrieved from Wonderwall.msn.com
Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock’s home was broken into just last month by 39 year old Joshua Carbett. Bullock was quick to call the police after a face-to-face encounter with the suspect.
Corbett is now facing residential burglary and stalking charges after his arrest at Bullock’s mansion.
Wonderwall, an MSN news outlet reported that Bullock heard a loud, banging noise at the early hours of the morning. She then came face-to-face with the suspect after leaving her bedroom and entering the hallway to check on the noise. Bullock immediately ran back into her room, locked the door, and called for help.
The good news is, Bullock was able to call for help and escaped the situation unharmed. But, if her home was secured, a surprising encounter may have been avoided.
There are a number of SABRE Home Series Products that can help you secure your home at a low cost with easy DIY installation.
-Wireless Home Protection System: An industry leader, this system is easy to install and provides door and window sensors that can secure the entire first floor of your home. An intruder will immediately know that if you are home, you are now awake calling for help, and if you’re not home, the neighbors have heard the noise and could be taking action.
-Motion Sensing Ceiling Alarm: This alarm covers a 360 degree area up to a 20 feet distance! The 120dB alarm will sound once again alerting you, and making the intruder think twice about continuing inside your home.
Carbett’s method of entry has not been reported, but SABRE alarms can cover the most vulnerable entrance ways to your home. We only provided two examples of SABRE’s Home Series, but many more can be found at sabrered.com/homeseries.
In the meantime, here are a few tips from personal safety expert David Nance that will keep your home from becoming a soft target:

4th of July Safety Tips From SABRE!

Well folks, tomorrow is the 4th of July, also known as Independence Day and of course, SABRE is here to provide you with tips to keep you and your family safe! A lot goes on during this wonderful holiday: cookouts, parades, themed parties, firework shows, and much more!
Throughout all of the exciting festivities during holidays like the fourth, we tend to let our guards down as we enjoy our favorite holiday traditions, like going out to see the fireworks with family.
Here are some things to keep in mind while celebrating America's independence!
Stay alert and aware, especially when attending crowded events
Events like firework showings are always packed full of people and criminals love large crowds. The larger the crowd, the easier it is for someone to get lost or quickly mugged.
To be safe, we would recommend our SABRE Personal Alarms for these situations. The dual siren of the alarm produces a strong sound, attracting attention and making criminals think twice before sticking around to complete their crime.

Keep a close eye on children
Talk to your child before going out and make sure they understand important safety rules. When going to events, don't let them out of your site and make sure it is clear to them that they can only stay in specified areas where you can see them.

Personal alarms are also a good tool for children. If they wander off and find themselves in danger, they can easily pull the key chain which triggers the alarm.

Capture-07.JPG
Protect your home while out
If you're going to be out celebrating all day, or even vacationing for the holiday, your home should be protected. Everyone knows that people will be out for the holidays, including intruders. Don't make it easy for a criminal to slip into your home. SABRE’s motion sensing alarms, door and window alarms, as well as our wireless home protection system make it easy and affordable to secure the first floor of your home and the main entry points.

Remember to have fun, but stay aware and be safe!

Happy 4th of July, from SABRE!
