If It's Good Enough for the White House - Why Home Security Matters

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Last month, a man hopped a fence and gained entry at what you'd think to be one of the most heavily guarded and most secure buildings in America - the White House. According to several news outlets, the private living quarters of the Obama family is not in fact swarming with Secret Service when the President and his family aren't there.

Such was the case on September 19th, so Omar Gonzalez was allegedly able to run across the grounds and actually enter the building before being stopped.

This week the director of the Secret Service has been sitting in a hearing on Capital Hill facing scrutiny from several lawmakers about how this breach of security happened. One Congressman suggested the Secret Service use a home alarm system he has in place at his home. While the advice was simply to add to the embarrassment felt by the department, the Congressman does bring up a good point. He argues a system would have at the very least alerted the guards someone was inside that shouldn't be. But the system he suggests comes with expensive monthly fees and wiring costs.

Instead, the SABRE Home Series provides effective safety solutions at an affordable price, easy DIY installation, and no additional fees. Had SABRE stand alone alarms or a wireless alarm system been in place and activated during this episode, the second an intruder opened a door or window the intruder and everyone else would have known there's someone inside who doesn't have access.

The average American doesn't have a fenced in property with guards on stand-by. But the average American can invest in their home's security to protect themselves and their families from being victims of theft or worse. According to the FBI, property crimes and breaking and enterings are one area of crime that continues to rise across the country.

Visit the SABRE Home Series website to learn more about our wireless and stand alone home alarm systems.

Two Children Escape Home During Break-in

Pinson, AL - Two Pinson children managed to escape their home Monday as a burglar attempted to break in.

Tribune Interactive reports, a 14 year-old girl and her 9 year-old younger brother were home alone when they discovered a stranger trying to enter the house. Thinking on their feet, they immediately called their mother who in turn contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The children then escaped and ran to their neighbor’s home.

Authorities arrived to find 50 year-old William Thomas climbing out of a first floor window of the home. When Thomas discovered the authorities’ arrival, he dropped the stolen belongings and ran into a nearby wooded area. Authorities surrounded the wooded area and later captured and arrested the suspect.

Gratefully, the children were not harmed in this burglary. Leaving children home alone can be stressful, especially when hearing news stories like these.

How Are You Investing in Home Security? Tell Us!

Everyday, there are approximately 25,000 burglaries in the United States.

How will you avoid becoming a statistic? How are you taking action to protect yourself and your family during Home Safety Month this June?

SABRE is asking you to use the hashtag #SafeIsSmart on your social media platforms to share safety tips and how you've invested in your home's security.

Thank you to everyone who has used #SIS so far! We've seen a lot of great tips getting shared, and many people say they've been inspired to purchase a home security system.

Here are just a few Home Security Tips we've seen this week - search the #SafeIsSmart hashtag to learn more!
  • 50% of intruders will enter your home through a first floor window or back door. Keeping all doors locked and keeping them in plain sight, not covered by landscaping, is a good way to discourage would-be thieves.
  • Have a neighbor get your mail, or place a stop on it while you're away.
  • Put a "Beware of Dog" sign up on your property, as burglars are less likely to target homes with a pet.
The new SABRE Home Series, now available at Target stores, has products for everyone and is a cost effective option for many homeowners with no monthly fees. Visit our website for more information about our products, or to order your SABRE Home Series today!
