What Matters Most to Middle-Income Home Buyers? Security!

CE Pro Magazine, the leading trade publication for professionals in the custom electronic business came out with a study detailing what matters most to middle-income home buyers.

Data from a recent report says that the high-end home market is driven by audio and video control features. But the middle-income market was more interested in security-related features.

According to this data, the most sought-after smart home devices to connect to a phone are:

  1. Smoke/Water/Gas leak detectors
  2. Motion/Door/Window sensors
  3. Appliances
  4. Lights
  5. Stove/Oven
  6. Thermostat
  7. Panic Button
  8. Security Cameras
  9. Door Locks
The two most popular features for the middle-income home buyer is the smoke/water/gas leak detectors, about 50% of those surveyed, while 33% say door locks appeal to them the most.

The SABRE Home Series is full of products to appeal to this type of consumer. There are no costly monthly monitoring fees, and because each product is DIY, there are no installation costs either.

Per this data, SABRE has several products that would give peace of mind to home owners, people looking to sell their home, or realtor's needing to offer suggestions:

  1. Water Leakage Alarm
  2. Panic Alarm
  3. Motion Sensing Alarms
  4. Door, Window, or Glass Alarms
These standalone alarms sound at 120 dB and can be heard up to 300 feet away - the length of a football field! They'll alert anyone at home, the neighbors, and most importantly the intruder someone is trying to get inside your home that shouldn't be.

For more information on the complete SABRE standalone alarm series, and the SABRE wireless alarms, visit the SABRE Home website.

DIY Home Security Tips from 21 Expert Panel

SABRE's David Nance, also known as the Personal Safety Expert, was part of a panel earlier this month to address home security options when it comes to DIY installation.

Safe And Sound Family is an online resource that researches and posts high quality, trustworthy information about family safety for families.

All twenty-one panelists selected by Safe and Sound Family were asked the same question - "What's the most important tip you have for homeowners who want to install a DIY home security system?"

Nance says the most important tip he has is to invest in securing all main entrance points and all ground floor windows and doors for one very important reason: more than 50% of home invasions are occurring through first floor entry points. But don't just install the system and forget about it; homeowners should be actively monitoring the alarms to make sure they're working properly.

The SABRE home series - which can be found in Target stores nationwide or online at our website, offers several motion sensing alarms that will sound a 120 decibel siren when activated - that can be heard up to 300 feet away! The benefits of using wireless or standalone alarms are many - homeowners will be able to avoid expensive monthly fees, wiring installation costs, and still receive an excellent level of protection.

At 120 dB, you and any neighbors and people living in the vicinity of your home are woken up - but most importantly, now the intruder knows that if you're home, you are now awake. We know intruders want the path of least resistance, and an alert homeowner with noisy alarms is not an easy target.

Here are some other quick tips from the other panelists:

  • Have a back up plan in case your alarm system does not deter and intruder - a safe can be an easy way to secure important belongings and documents.
  • Do your research! Make sure you know the difference between a sensor and alarm, and make sure to learn the range of the products so you're getting so you have accurate expectations for the performance of your system.
  • An alarm alerts you that something is happening, not that something is about to happen. That means families need back up plans and need to agree on a commonly known safety procedure in case of an emergency.
  • Keep it simple! A system that is easy for multiple family members to use means the system is more likely to be activated, and is more likely to be on if and when an emergency occurs.
  • Invest in something that can protect and alert you for multiple threats - a system that has fire, flood and intruder protection means the homeowner is getting more for their money.

If It's Good Enough for the White House - Why Home Security Matters

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Last month, a man hopped a fence and gained entry at what you'd think to be one of the most heavily guarded and most secure buildings in America - the White House. According to several news outlets, the private living quarters of the Obama family is not in fact swarming with Secret Service when the President and his family aren't there.

Such was the case on September 19th, so Omar Gonzalez was allegedly able to run across the grounds and actually enter the building before being stopped.

This week the director of the Secret Service has been sitting in a hearing on Capital Hill facing scrutiny from several lawmakers about how this breach of security happened. One Congressman suggested the Secret Service use a home alarm system he has in place at his home. While the advice was simply to add to the embarrassment felt by the department, the Congressman does bring up a good point. He argues a system would have at the very least alerted the guards someone was inside that shouldn't be. But the system he suggests comes with expensive monthly fees and wiring costs.

Instead, the SABRE Home Series provides effective safety solutions at an affordable price, easy DIY installation, and no additional fees. Had SABRE stand alone alarms or a wireless alarm system been in place and activated during this episode, the second an intruder opened a door or window the intruder and everyone else would have known there's someone inside who doesn't have access.

The average American doesn't have a fenced in property with guards on stand-by. But the average American can invest in their home's security to protect themselves and their families from being victims of theft or worse. According to the FBI, property crimes and breaking and enterings are one area of crime that continues to rise across the country.

Visit the SABRE Home Series website to learn more about our wireless and stand alone home alarm systems.

Americans Want Secure Homes Without the High Cost

According to a survey conducted by national hardware store Lowe's, most Americans want to invest in their home's security - they just don't want to spend a lot of money to make that happen.

The Lowe's 2014 Smart Home Survey collected feedback from 2,000 U.S. adults in July.

Here are some of the most important findings we've identified below:

  • 52% say having a smart home is at least somewhat important, but more than 70% of smart phone users would like to control these security functions without getting out of bed.
  • In terms of purchasing decisions, 56% say cost is the number one deciding factor, followed by 13% concerned with how easy it is to use, and 11% concerned with security.
  • For actual functions, security is the most sought after application with 62% of those surveyed agreeing. 35% wanted something convenient and disasters, like flood and dire protection being important for 29% of those surveyed.
  • 50% of people prefer DIY solutions without a monthly fee, which is twice as many as those who say they'd prefer a professionally monitored system with a service fee (21%.)
The results of this survey show consumers are interested in effective, affordable, and easy to set-up products - the SABRE Home Series meets all of these requirements!

Protecting your family and property with a quality security system doesn't need to be expensive. Our system includes three categories:

  • Wireless Home Security Systems - Design a system to protect your home or office that you can arm with a touch of a button.
  • Stand Alone Alarms - Ideal for apartments, dorms, and hotel rooms
  • Personal Alarms - Be Prepared to help chase trouble away with a 110 dB siren on your key ring.

Breaking Into Homes With An iPhone?

It’s the 21st century and we’re all guilty of taking advantage of innovative technology as it makes life easier, more convenient and even more entertaining. But a downside - technology can make life easier and convenient for criminals too.
SABRE has learned, there is a downloadable iPhone app with the capability of giving someone access to your home. Wired.com has shared an articled titled, The App I Used to Break Into My Neighbor’s Home where it is revealed how to break into someone’s home with the use of an iPhone.
Companies like KeyMe, along with competitors like KeysDuplicated and the Belgian Keysave, intend to solve the common problem of lockouts and lost keys, thereby creating apps that have the ability to scan your keys and copy them. With these apps, you scan and upload your keys, copy them and even send them to a friend who plans to visit.
This may sound like another cool and innovative idea until you realize how much of your home security is actually at stake. In the article, The App I Used to Break Into My Neighbor’s Home, the author provides details of how he was able to scan his neighbor’s keys, create a duplicate and re-enter his neighbor’s home without permission.
We can’t be oblivious to the new technology out there. SABRE is here to make sure you are prepared to handle such innovative changes with the SABRE Home Series.
For greater protection, you can start off with the WP-100 Wireless Home Protection System which includes a control pad, 8 security zones, a key fob remote control, a wireless motion detector, and two window/door sensors.
If you are looking for something more simple and even more affordable, we have door/window alarms, motion sensing alarms and more that are available individually. Either way, our SABRE Home Series Products can help scare away criminals, the moment they attempt to enter your home.

As we can continue to enjoy the innovative technology of the 21st century, it’s important to remain alert and aware of what’s out there. Be smart, be ready and be safe with The SABRE Home Series.
