Two Children Escape Home During Break-in

Pinson, AL - Two Pinson children managed to escape their home Monday as a burglar attempted to break in.

Tribune Interactive reports, a 14 year-old girl and her 9 year-old younger brother were home alone when they discovered a stranger trying to enter the house. Thinking on their feet, they immediately called their mother who in turn contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The children then escaped and ran to their neighbor’s home.

Authorities arrived to find 50 year-old William Thomas climbing out of a first floor window of the home. When Thomas discovered the authorities’ arrival, he dropped the stolen belongings and ran into a nearby wooded area. Authorities surrounded the wooded area and later captured and arrested the suspect.

Gratefully, the children were not harmed in this burglary. Leaving children home alone can be stressful, especially when hearing news stories like these.

Do you have a spare key? If so, I hope you have a good hiding spot for it.

5-Genius-Places-to-Hide-a-Spare-Key.jpg

Let’s take a guess…

Is it under your doormat?

In your porch light?

Under a flower pot or rock near the door?

On top of the door-sill?

In your mailbox?

If the location of your spare key is listed above, it’s time to find a less obvious hiding spot.

For starters, anywhere near your front door is usually easy to find. With burglaries occurring every 14.5 seconds in the United States, you wouldn’t want to give thieves an easy pathway into your home!

Here are five suggestions to keep burglars guessing! #SafeIsSmart

#SafeIsSmart: 6 Home Break-ins in 3 Days!

BRISTOL, CT - Six home break-ins have been reported in a Connecticut community this week, and police are still unsure who is responsible.
WFSB reports, the suspect(s) entered most homes through the windows after cutting and removing the screen and each burglary occurred at night while the residents were home and asleep.
A victim who wished to remain anonymous said someone walked straight through the unlocked front door of his home.
Suspects have been targeting small items like money, purses, and credit cards.
"This neighborhood has never been like that, especially with people going house-to-house like that,”said Fred Smith, a Bristol resident.
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a safe neighborhood. We cannot be oblivious to the crimes that are occurring around us. It’s always better to be aware and in control.
Gain additional piece of mind with SABRE’s door/window alarm.
The SABRE door/window alarm protects your home with its magnetic triggered alarm that sounds when a protected door or window is opened, tampered with, or movement is detected. • 50% of intruders will enter your home through a first floor window or back door. Keeping all doors locked and keeping them in plain sight, not covered by landscaping, is a good way to discourage would-be thieves.
  • Have a neighbor get your mail, or place a stop on it while you're away.
  • Put a "Beware of Dog" sign up on your property, as burglars are less likely to target homes with a pet.
